A delightful period house, artfully and carefully crafted to serve as the perfect camp
from which to visit the Antietam battlefield and the surrounding historical area.

The house was the location of the battlefield headquarters of Major General James Longstreet, CSA,
during the battle of Sharpsburg/Antietam on 17 September 1862, and was used as
a field hospital for both Confederate and Union wounded after the battle,
which was the single bloodiest day in the Civil War.

Containing only three bedrooms, each with its own modern bath, the two-story house
sits among the outbuildings of a working farm at the end of a narrow country lane.
It lies only a half mile from the Visitor's Center of the Antietam NBP
(on Route 65, within the boundaries of the Park itself)
and less than ten miles from Harpers Ferry.
The town of Sharpsburg, with shops and historic buildings, is just a mile away.

The living areas of the house are replete with books, artwork, and photographs
illustrating the historical battle that surrounded the house, along with more
modern recreations of the fighting in films and on television.
A rare Confederate battle marker also sits at the entrance to the lane
leading to the house.

The Piper House provides a full breakfast in a traditional country kitchen setting.
